Phil Hough - A Brief History | |
I was born early in the morning of the 28th February, 1978 at the Copthorn hospital in Shrewsbury (Shropshire). I spent all of my childhood, and most of my teenage years living at the same house in Newport (Shropshire), a small town in a rural bit of the country. My parents are both teachers (My Dad an Assistant Head, and teaching Physics at a local Comprehensive. My Mum teaches little brats), and I have two brothers, and a sister. All younger than me. I went to a few different schools, starting with Newport Infant school, as a small child, then onto Newport Junior School later. When it came to secondary school I failed my 11+ and so didn't go to the local Grammar School. Instead I went to Idsall Comprehensive (Now a sports college), in a nearby town. My dad is still a teacher at that school, and taught me physics through GCSE and A-Levels. As you can imagine school had a lot of ups and downs, but generally speaking I did pretty well. I finished up at school and went on to University to study computer science for 4 years at Manchester University. Again there were ups and downs, some hard work, and I did well there too, doing my best academically to date. Once I'd left university I started work nearly straight away with a small Oxfordshire IT company, called *censored*. I started off as a programmer writing one of their web based systems. This acts to speed the valuation of properties during the house-buying process. The system has been through many changes since I started, and I'm now the firms IT Systems Manager, though I still spend most of my time coding. The office is right out in the countryside, in a small business park that is part of a country park. Before working at my current job, I've also had a few others jobs, temping at a local college during enrollment, school caretaker for a few weeks. I was also sponsored during my degree by ICL (now part of Fujitsu), and worked their once summer. My last summer at university was spent working for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). So that's a brief summary of my upbringing, education and work so far. What else? Well to start with these diary pages should give you a good indication of what I like, don't like and so on. However you're probably here to get a summary, so here we go: My main interests I guess are music, films, computers (And gadgets) and motorsport (in no particular order). I'm currently single and living in a (quite nice) rented flat on the edge of Oxford. Hopefully that gives you a reasonable idea of what I'm about. If you've any particular questions, drop me an email. |
