"Fluffy"
Last Updated: Sunday, 10th March, 1996
Background
Fluffy was inspired by a line in "Blackadder Goes
Forth", in which Captain Blackadder describes the Germans:-
Their teutonic reputation for brutality is well fouded - their
operas last three or four days. And they have no word for
"fluffy".
I have been assured that they do, in fact, have a word for
"fluffy", but by that time it was too late, and this lyric
had already gushed out of me.
Musically I knew it needed a suitably tacky background. I had already
decided to sing it as a Noel Coward pastiche, and went to Joe's to beg
his assistance with the music. After trying almost every sound on his
keyboard, we were no closer, and resigned ourselves to the fact that
his keyboard was just too good.
Joe then went to his cupboard, and withdrew a Yamaha MK100 - an old
"portasynth" type of keyboard. As soon as he played one of
the built in rythms, I knew that this is what we were after, and so
the song was borne of a cheap rhumba rythm and some one fingered
chording. It is still one of our most popular pieces.
At one of our gigs there was not space for Michelle, Dave and Xan to
practically leave the stage, so we had brought some cuddly toys along
for them to hold up at the appropriate point. Typically things
degenerated, and the resultant tennis match using cuddly toys, a
guitar and a mandolin has to be one of the high points in the band's
history, as far as I am concerned. The sample of a goat, transposed to
sound more sheepish, also helped.
Fluffy
Oh I'm fluffy, oh so fluffy.
I'm so fluffy, fluffy, fluffy, fluffy, ooohhh!
And when you're with me, I hope you're fluffy too,
For there's nothing like a fluffy me and you.
When you're fluffy, I feel fluffy.
I'm as fluffy as a cuddly little lamb.
For when I'm with you that is just what I am.
So if ewe feel sheepish, I will be your ram.
We're both fluffy, totally fluffy.
We're as fluffy as a little kiddies toy.
If you'll be my fluffy girl, I'll be your fluffy boy.
So let's get fluffy now, and stop acting so coy.
Now we're fluffy, togetherly fluffy.
In a fluffy world that is our fluffy own.
You can be my queen upon a fluffy throne.
And I'll never let you be a-fluffy-lone.
We'll be fluffy, ever fluffy.
Even when we're getting very fluffy old,
And my fluffiness may not be quite so bold,
But with you around, my fluffy won't get cold.
Fluffy.
